Let’s talk about food

Skye’s Food Revolution revolution got off to a good start when 15 people participated in “Let’s talk about Food!’, a meeting hosted by the Highland Community Waste Partnership  and Skye Climate Action at the Hebridean Inn, Broadford. The aim was to discuss concerns and opportunities with the current food system as it applies locally.

A free-ranging conversation covered impacts of the conventional food system on climate, health and waste, our dependence on imported foodstuffs, and food poverty. More importantly, there was animated discussion of potential solutions to make fresh, healthy, plastic-free, and affordable food available to all. Education, training, workshops, and developing land for community growing were part of the mix, with realistic opportunities to make this happen.

The group agreed to meet monthly. Initially, this is likely to be at the Hebridean Inn (which plans to serve healthy meals for lunch and take-away over the winter). Details of timing, topic and online access will be confirmed in the next few weeks.
