National Food Debate

Wednesday 8 April, 6:30 – 8:30 pm online

This is an invitation to attend a hustings organised by the Scottish Food Coalition (an alliance of 70+ organisations working for a just transition to a fair, healthy, sustainable food system)  in Edinburgh with a (free) online option to join in. Click here to register.

Political party representatives will be asked pre-selected questions as well as questions from the audience physically present and online.

According to the Coalition, food policy has become a defining issue for the May elections. Household budgets are under continued pressure, poor nutrition contributes to significant public health challenges and farmers are under severe strain.

Coincidentally, the Scottish Food Commission has just been launched as an outcome of Scotland’s Good Food Nation Plan. The vision of the Commission is ‘Making food work for all’. Their role is to

  • Scrutinise national and local Good Food Nation Plans and related progress reports;
  • Make recommendations to Scottish Ministers, local authorities, and health boards;
  • Conduct research related to food systems; and
  • Advise on food-related policy matters to ensure Scotland’s Good Food Nation ambitions are delivered.

So where do the potential future parliamentarians stand on issues of food policy? Will they support the Commission? How do their decisions affect us and what can we do? Register and join in to find out.

Oh, and come along to Feel Heal Real Food on 25th April at Broadford Hall to meet members of the Scottish Food Commission, ask them questions and tell them what you think about our food system. They want to hear from you.
