A group met at the Hebridean Inn on September 21st to continue the discussions and planning to create a sustainable food system in Skye and Lochalsh, accessible and affordable for everyone.
There is a strong desire to have some sort of community food hub to share eating food, to learn how to grow, prepare and preserve food, and to swap seeds and plants as well as ideas and encouragement.
As a first step, the Hebridean will start providing weekday lunches later in the month and there will be opportunity for learning and teaching skills and for swapping seeds, plants and produce.
We are aware that it is usually people who are already engaged in local food production and/or preparation who come along, but we’d love to have more community involvement. To help engage with more people, we’re going to invite people to Imagine a Sustainable Skye and then think what you are already doing for a sustainable lifestyle and society, and could maybe teach others + what you would like to learn or know more about. A simple survey will be sent out – possibly with the next newsletter, so get thinking.
NEXT TALKING ABOUT FOOD MEETING: Thursday 9th November, 10 am – 12 pm at The Hebridean Inn, Broadford. Join in the conversation. It’s free and friendly.
