Woodland Trust petition for native woodland planting in Scotland

take action

The Woodland Trust is calling on Roseanna Cunningham to ensure that Scotland’s Climate Change Plan update includes ambitious targets (at least 50%) for native woodland planting to help meet Scotland’s net zero by 2045 target.

A young wood, with mixed native species can lock up more than 400 tonnes of carbon per hectare, in its trees, roots and soil. The Just Transition Commission’s advice on green recovery calls for diversified tree planting because native trees are more effective in capturing carbon.
