Successful launch of South Skye Electrical Amnesty

Electrical waste stacked in a truck for recycling

There was a brilliant turnout yesterday at the launch of Skye Climate Action’s South Skye Electrical Recycling scheme, with a stream of vehicles and lots of locals bringing their unwanted domestic electrical items to Ashaig Camp Site for collection by ILM Highland. Two Luton vans were filled with a whopping 3.8 tonnes of electrical goods!

Kenny Horsfield, Recycling Operations Manager of ILM Highland said “The electrical amnesty was honestly amazing! It was fantastic to see so many items being brought out for onward reuse and recycling. The amount of broken and unused electrical items people hold onto is quite astonishing… and yet they could be put to much better use for either refurbishment so they can be used again, or for recycling where they can be turned into new items such as life-saving medical equipment or children’s playgrounds. We look forward to the next amnesty day and encourage everyone to clear out and pass on electrical items they no longer want or use.”

Next month’s collection date is Wednesday 26th May, 11am–1pm, at Ashaig Camp Site
