On 20th May, National Emergency Briefing (NEB) launched an official UK parliamentary petition. It calls for a UK-wide public briefing from independent experts on the risks posed by climate change and nature loss – from extreme weather and food insecurity to economic disruption and national security threats – and the opportunities if we respond at scale and with urgency. This briefing, via prime time television and other media, would give people clear, trusted guidance on what these risks mean in practice, and what we can do – both together and individually – to prepare and respond.
NEB needs to reach 100,000 signatures to secure a Parliamentary debate on holding the national briefing,
If you would like to help, please sign here and share with others. If you are one of the more than 50,000 people who signed the petition on the NEB website, please sign again using the link, because the previous petition signatures cannot be transferred across to the Parliamentary website that operates government petitions.
This petition runs alongside NEB’s Parliamentary Call for government to stage a televised emergency briefing and an Early Day Motion (EDM 93) calling for a UK-wide National Emergency Briefing on the climate and nature crisis. The EDM will help to build visibility and demonstrate growing support within Westminster for the wider Parliamentary Call.
So far over one thousand screenings of the People’s Emergency Briefing have been shown around the UK. See the map of screenings here. We are planning to host a screening on Skye in the near future – keep an eye out for information.
