With the generous support of the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub and the Highland Community Waste Partnership, Broadford and Strath Community Company were able to run Apple Day at Broadford Hall on Saturday 5th October. It was a successful inaugural event last year, and we were able to run it in a very similar fashion with something for everyone. Art and face-painting was kindly provided by Emma Bennon and Robyn Sands, with Colin Parsons running the apple press. The cafe was run by the Broadford Croileagan volunteers and over £200 was raised for them on the day. Phil at Drumfearn Trees ran the apple variety table, the book and information table and also sold locally grown fruit trees. The event was combined with the successful Saturday markets that had been run out of the Hebridean Inn – a real celebration of food and drink!
The Saturday after, it was the time of Achmore Hall to host the Lochalsh Apple Day. A very successful event with a steady flow of locals and visitors.
With Lochaber having its first Apple Day this year at Kilmallie Hall, Lismore getting their first event and even an apple pressing at West Ardnamurchan Garden, it is clear there is a real appetite for such events and we look forward to running these again.
