Highland Council consultations

Highland Council is developing planning guidance and policy on Dark Skies to reduce light pollution across Highland, except where needed to reduce crime, allow sporting and business activity to continue during winter darkness hours and protect public safety. Excess artificial lighting wastes energy and money, and can negatively affect animal species’ sleep patterns, feeding, reproduction and migration, as well as human sleep and health. The night sky is a source of wonder and inspiration to many people, providing a window into the history of our universe and a link to our earliest ancestors who relied on the stars for navigation, timekeeping, survival, and storytelling.

You can share your thoughts here. Consultation closes 30 October.
