At Ardmore Bay, Waternish, SSEN plans to lay a cable across a centuries-old maerl bed, a vital blue carbon sink and a declining and threatened habitat.
This is despite NatureScot recommendations that Ardmore Bay and the adjacent Loch Bay be designated as a Proposed Priority Marine Feature Managed Area because of the presence of maerl.
The Waternish Wildlife Alliance is calling on SSEN to consider documented alternative routes for their cable into Ardmore, before this Protected Marine Feature is irreversibly decimated.
