Building Effective Nature-Based Regional Food Systems (Aviemore)

July 2 @ 10:45 am - 4:00 pm

At The Cairngorm Hotel, Aviemore

The Rowett Institute invites you to join them for an engagement event focused on accelerating nature‑based approaches that can strengthen and future‑proof regional food systems in Scotland. This session will bring together targeted key organisations to explore practical solutions that support climate resilience, environmental improvement, and healthier food production.

Scotland’s Climate Change Plan (2018–2032) highlights that our future landscape will look very different having to accommodate increased urban spread as well as larger areas of afforestation and peatland restoration. Simultaneously, there is an immediate need to produce healthy food efficiently, while being mindful of protecting and restoring nature. Mainstream agriculture will have to quickly adapt to incorporate novel crops with potential to contribute to Scotland’s emission targets and strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This will require ambition to think beyond domestic agriculture, more widely than ‘farm to fork’, while contributing to our economy, people’s livelihoods, and the health of the nation.

The Rowett Institute says: “Let us identify together high‑impact opportunities and the evidence needed to explore effective strategies that work across a range of landscapes, including less favourable land. Your expertise will be invaluable in shaping a more resilient, future‑ready food system that supports us in becoming a good food nation.”
