A beach litter survey and clean at Ostaig beach, Sleat, on Sunday 28th July from 9:30 am until 4 pm, with Dr Tom Stanton (Loughborough University) and his team.
Don’t worry you don’t need to come along for the whole day – come down whenever you like between these times.
Tom’s team will be gathering data on the beach, in the water and from the air. You can see them in action, ask questions, help out if you want to. At the same time, we will be holding a community beach clean event. You will need sturdy footwear – the path to / from the beach is narrow, muddy and steep in places. Gardening gloves or similar and, dare I say it, sun protection are recommended. Bags and a skip will be made available.
High tide is around lunchtime so that seems like a good excuse for a picnic! Bring your lunch and refreshments. We hope our local cake faeries will turn up with some delicious home baked cakes too!
If that hasn’t whetted your appetite yet take a look at this short film on You Tube from last year. You may see some familiar faces and if you’ve ever been on a Skye beach and wondered whether you were standing in the middle of a crime scene with all the shotgun cartridges lying around then you definitely need to watch – I promise that not only will the mystery be solved but that it will also be a complete surprise!
