SUMMARY:What coasts and seas do we want for our children?
DESCRIPTION:What coasts and seas do we want for our children? \nA family rockpooling event exploring coastal ecology for children and their parents/carers led by an interdisciplinary group of scientists.  Book via Eventbrite. \nThis workshop is part of the Tidal Gardens series. Tidal Gardens will bring together artists and scientists\, foragers\, researchers and activists\, families and community members in workshops across the island\, with the ultimate aim of imagining what an intertidal sea garden for Skye could look like\, and culminating with a public exhibition. \nResponding to the complex realities of land and marine ownership in Skye\, regulation and extractivism\, the project seeks to imagine TIDAL GARDENS as ‘coastal commons’\, places steeped in collaboration and community\, local vision and care.

SUMMARY:Community Woodland Day\, Broadford
DESCRIPTION:by Phil Knott\nphil@broadfordandstrath.org\n\nWe are excited to announce the Community Woodland Day on Sunday 23rd November at Camping Skye.\n\nWe will split the day into two sessions – tree planting in the morning around the Growers Hub and Camping Skye\, and followed by a look at the Community Tree Nursery and tour through the ‘off-piste’ wilder parts of the Community Woodland. We have big plans for the woodland and would love for everyone’s input. Refreshments will be provided. More details on the poster attached and the website here: Community Woodland Day\, Sunday 23 November – Broadford & Strath Community Company\n\nWe are delighted to say we have been given the trees for the planting by the Woodland Trust\, while we wait for our community tree nursery trees to get to plantable size. We have more coming in the spring and have additional bids in for more trees – there will be plenty more tree planting events to come!\n\nThere are many tasks that need doing ahead of the woodland day\, including path creation and clearing of the rushes in the areas marked for tree planting. Do let Phil know if you are able to assist with these tasks in the coming weeks – they will be on rough terrain and be best suited to those who are experienced in practical outdoor work. Days and times are flexible\, please liaise with me direct.\n\nThe regular winter volunteering will start the week after the event\, please feed back to Phil which tasks you would be keen to help with. Some of the more practical tasks will be on uneven and wet ground\, so discuss your physical and accessibility requirements with Phil\, there are tasks for everyone\, with days flexible. Tasks include:\n\n\nMapping of invasive non-native species\nRemoval of invasive non-native species\nTree planting\nTrialling different deer protection measures\nInformal path creation\nBiodiversity monitoring (Mar – July)\nTree nursery tasks (Feb – May)
