SUMMARY:ReRoot Film Club: local marine-themed films
DESCRIPTION:The July film evening will be themed to link with the Marine Litter open day on 27 July. Two short films based right here in Skye and Lochalsh illustrate the horrors of whale entanglement and the trial of a new fishing technique to avoid entanglement. The third film is yet to be confirmed. \nWe are delighted that local experts\, Ellie and Zoe\, will join us for a Q + A session after the films. Light refreshments will be available as people arrive before the screening starts at 6.15 pm prompt. Doors open from 5.30 pm. While not essential to book\, it would be helpful to register on the SBS Events page (available from 10 July) or let me know that you plan to be there for catering purposes – and to ensure that you don’t miss out on a seat. \nThe 17th July screening  will complete the current series of ReRoot film evenings. All of the films have been good to watch and learn from. Some feel-good and some a bit more uncomfortable\, but each followed by discussion picking up on good and less good points. \nThe plan is to run another series over the winter months\, but more of that later. SUMMARY:Ostaig Beach (Sleat) marine litter survey
DESCRIPTION:The fourth quarterly marine litter survey of Ostaig Beach will be on Saturday 26 July. \nSleat Nature Group\, working in collaboration with Loughborough University\, is quantifying the amount and type of marine litter in 10x10m quadrats\, based on Scottish Islands Federation and Marine Conservation ociety methodology.
