SUMMARY:Healthy Homes Online Conference
DESCRIPTION:Friday 9th February 2024\, 9:30 am – 4:30 pm\, online.\nREGISTER NOW! It’s free. \nThe conference will discuss how to tackle the unacceptably high number of homes in Skye and Lochalsh that are in need of repair and upgrades. These homes were identified in the Healthy Homes survey\, completed by over 400 local residents. The homes are cold\, mouldy\, damp\, draughty and expensive to keep warm\, presenting potential health hazards to their occupants. Residents said the main barriers to improving their homes were high upgrade costs\, no suitable grants\, no builders available and not knowing what they needed to do to make things better. \nRegister to have your say about how to improve homes in our area. \nWe have put together an exciting conference programme to look these barriers from different angles\, and to discuss solutions. We hope that many residents will attend\, so that your voice is clearly heard\, and the discussions are grounded in reality. \nHave a look at the fantastic speaker line-up  here. \nThe conference will be opened by Housing Minister\, Paul McLennan and chaired by our local councillor Calum Munro. Ariane Burgess MSP\, will also speak\, along with many  experienced local and national practitioners\, and representatives of agencies and policy making. \nRegister to reserve your place. \nMore info at www.HealthyHomesSL.co.uk

SUMMARY:Consultation on Proposals for a Heat in Buildings Bill: online discussion
DESCRIPTION:The way we heat our homes\, workplaces and other buildings is the third-largest cause of greenhouse gas emissions in Scotland. To meet Scotland’s legal obligation to reach ‘net zero\,’  the heating systems in the vast majority of our buildings must be changed\, because they produce CO2 and other gases contributing to climate change. The Scottish Government estimates that 89% of homes and 49% of non-domestic premises currently use “polluting heating”\, while around 55% of homes do not reach a good level of energy efficiency. \nThe Highlands and Islands Climate Hub is hosting a community discussion about the consultation\nBook here. \nIt’s a good opportunity to add your voice for greater energy efficiency and help for people to switch to non polluting heating. The consultation includes many of the options that we are calling for\, following the Healthy Homes survey. You can contribute to the consultation here. You don’t have to answer all the questions. Consultation closes 8th March.
