It investigates fish farming across three continents\, meeting local communities fighting against the expansion of fish farms. \nAquaculture is the fastest growing food industry in the world. It aspires to be a sustainable solution to feed a growing global population.  Although not featured in this documentary\, aquaculture is also growing in Scotland – and around Skye – providing ‘valuable jobs and income for the Scottish economy’. \nWhat relevance does the film have for our situation? SUMMARY:Trial of a public diner in Broadford
DESCRIPTION:Public diners are state supported\, affordable restaurants serving quality food to the general public and this is your chance to try one out! \nThey’ve been successful in several countries and as British Restaurants here in the 1940s/ 50s. Nourish Scotland believes that the time has come to start them up again and so they are taking the movement for public diners across the country with a series of pop up suppers\, including at The Hebridean Inn\, partnering with the SELF Health Food Truck to test how a public diner might work on Skye. \nYou are invited to join in the conversation – and eat. Booking opens on 2nd October via Eventbrite\, with tickets at £5 and concessions available. \nIt will be part public diner simulation\, part movement building conversations – all centred on good food in good company\, with live music. \nThere’s a sneak peek into the upcoming exhibit on public diners from 6pm\, with dinner served about 6.30pm and the evening to finish at 8pm.

SUMMARY:ReRoot film screenings -  Rooted: Growing a Local Food Ecosystem & Paddock to Plate: A tale of disconnect. 
DESCRIPTION:These films are shown at the Skye Bridge Studios in Kyle with snacks from SELF Health available on arrival (doors open from 5.30pm). Screening starts about 6.15pm and following the film(s) there is an opportunity to talk about them and to consider the relevance to our individual and community situations. \nOctober’s film is Rooted: Growing a Local Food Ecosystem and is set in Dumfries and Galloway. The film aims to answer the question\, ‘How can we work together to create a fair\, healthy and sustainable food system?’ – a similar quest to ReRoot. Themes running through the film are: Environment\, Money and Fairness in the Food System\, Community\, Soil\, and Regenerative + Organic Farming. \nRooted is 50 minutes long\, so there’s time for another 30 minute video\, Paddock to Plate: A tale of disconnect.  This comes from an Australian physician linking lifestyle\, diet and health.
