SUMMARY:Trees\, Community & Climate
DESCRIPTION:“There is a lot of talk about the importance of tree planting and in reducing deforestation\, in dealing with climate crisis.  Scottish Government have ambitious tree planting targets\, and COP26 will include discussions on how to reduce deforestation world-wide. But what is the best way of achieving this?  Is this just about emissions or are there other things at stake?  Where do people fit into woodland restoration\, rewilding and forest conservation? This conversation between Alan McDonnal of Trees for Life\, Veronique Walraven of Morven Community Woodlands\, and Sarobidy Rakotonarivo\, a research fellow at Bangor University based in Madagascar\, will explore how forest conservation and woodland restoration can best deliver climate mitigation\, the co-benefits that arise\, and the role of local communities in delivering them.” \nSign up here.

SUMMARY:Grassroots to Global - supporting Peoples' Assemblies in Scotland
DESCRIPTION:“Many of us who have woken up to the impacts of climate change see it as part of a system which also causes many of our social problems\, from inequality to marginalisation. It is this system that needs to change if we are to tackle all of these problems – including avoiding the worst impacts of climate chaos. Most people would prefer to live in a system which is built around care for people and the planet and where our collective decisions are made fairly. But there isn’t yet a shared view across society of what that system would look like or how we can get there. Grassroots to Global is a new project which plans to support People’s Assemblies in Scotland – starting in our communities and building to the national level – where we can use deliberative democratic processes to begin to build that shared view. If you would like to join us\, please contact heartpolitics@protonmail.com or attend our first public meeting on the 3rd of November from 6.30-9pm.”
