Westminster is filled with flags\, banners and people.\nSaturday 22nd – Earth Day. An enormous\, celebration & family-friendly march for biodiversity!\nSunday 23rd – Running Out of Time! DESCRIPTION:On Earth Day\, people will gather in Inverness to express concerns about the latest IPCC report (March 2023) which boils down to one message – act now\, or it will be too late. \nEarth Day is an annual event that celebrates and promotes environmental awareness and the need to protect our natural resources for future generations\, and it seems a perfect way of highlighting this in Inverness. \nThe event will be fun\, friendly and creative\, and a chance to meet-like minded people and forge alliances. \nDetails are being finalised but likely to include a multi-group march and rally celebrating Earth Day\, possibly gathering at 1pm at Inverness Townhouse\, High Street/Castle Street and slowly marching to Falcon Square. At Falcon Square we will have a rally with speeches on local/global  biodiversity issues. Then with a fun but poignant finish to the rally with a flash mob style dance to ‘Staying Alive’ – no experience necessary\, just a good sense of humour! DESCRIPTION:Online film evening: Zoom screening of The Letter: a message for our Earth (Off The Fence Productions\, Director Nicolas Brown)\nA Climate Fringe Festival event. \nThis is a high quality and powerful 81 minute documentary commissioned by Pope Francis as a call to action on climate change to protect ‘Our Common Home’. The focus is on climate injustice as it tells the story of three individuals and a couple from Senegal\, India\, the Amazon and Hawaii. The cameras follow them from their very different home settings to meet each other and the Pope in Rome\, where they learn from\, and inspire each other. There is some wonderful nature photography and the film is meaningful for people of all faiths or none. \nSee trailer below. \nAt the Zoom event on 12th June\, there will be a short introduction before watching the film. Afterwards\, stay on for half an hour or so if you can to reflect on the content and discuss if and how it can be used to advance knowledge and action in Skye\, Raasay and through Highland. \nIf there is support from attendees\, the film could be made available to watch and discuss in community settings around the area. Your feedback on that idea would be valued. DESCRIPTION:Join Atlas Arts at Skye Bridge studios for a screening of Foragers by Jumana Manna. There will be snacks and refreshments before the film and a special guest\, sharing a bit about local plant culture. Bring along seeds and plants you might want to talk about or learn more about as a group\, and there’ll also be a seed swap set up in the space. \nIn 2021 Atlas screened a previous work of Jumana’s called Wild Relatives\, which looks at the journey of seeds to the Svalbard Seed vault in Norway\, and the colonial politics of seeds collection and preservation. DESCRIPTION:This webinar is organised by Global Justice Now to highlight an international fossil fuel treaty and to consider how we campaign for it in Scotland. \nAs the climate crisis escalates\, there is an urgent need for an international treaty to plan the global phase out of fossil fuels in a fast and fair manner.Fossil fuel companies such as Shell and BP are reporting huge profits with new coal\, oil and gas projects still being approved by the UK and other governments despite the climate emergency and a cost of living crisis. \nA global coalition is calling for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty. Speakers from the Pacific Islands\, Europe and California will  provide background on the coalition\, but anyone can join in the discussion about persuading the Scottish Government to endorse the Treaty. DESCRIPTION:How can we create a more sustainable food system in Skye\, Raasay and Lochalsh? \nFollowing the successful visit to Raasay’s Walled Garden earlier this month\, we are now going to visit another inspirational site: West Coast Organics. West Coast Organics was established at Roag in 2015 and currently grows organic vegetables for around 55 households on Skye who get a weekly organic veg box. \nCome along on 9th July\n13:30-15:30 for a tour of the gardens by the growers Anna and Hanno\n15:45-16:45 for a discussion facilitated by Skye Climate Action. \nThe food system includes everything from production\, through transport and packaging\, purchase and preparation\, to waste minimisation and composting. It impacts on health\, environment\, pollution\, climate\, food access and affordability\, the local economy and community resilience. \nHow can we support one another to optimise our local food system for residents and planet?\nBe inspired by the tour\, and then join in the conversation afterwards.
