Westminster is filled with flags\, banners and people.\nSaturday 22nd – Earth Day. An enormous\, celebration & family-friendly march for biodiversity!\nSunday 23rd – Running Out of Time! DESCRIPTION:On Earth Day\, people will gather in Inverness to express concerns about the latest IPCC report (March 2023) which boils down to one message – act now\, or it will be too late. \nEarth Day is an annual event that celebrates and promotes environmental awareness and the need to protect our natural resources for future generations\, and it seems a perfect way of highlighting this in Inverness. \nThe event will be fun\, friendly and creative\, and a chance to meet-like minded people and forge alliances. \nDetails are being finalised but likely to include a multi-group march and rally celebrating Earth Day\, possibly gathering at 1pm at Inverness Townhouse\, High Street/Castle Street and slowly marching to Falcon Square. At Falcon Square we will have a rally with speeches on local/global  biodiversity issues. Then with a fun but poignant finish to the rally with a flash mob style dance to ‘Staying Alive’ – no experience necessary\, just a good sense of humour! DESCRIPTION:Online film evening: Zoom screening of The Letter: a message for our Earth (Off The Fence Productions\, Director Nicolas Brown)\nA Climate Fringe Festival event. \nThis is a high quality and powerful 81 minute documentary commissioned by Pope Francis as a call to action on climate change to protect ‘Our Common Home’. The focus is on climate injustice as it tells the story of three individuals and a couple from Senegal\, India\, the Amazon and Hawaii. The cameras follow them from their very different home settings to meet each other and the Pope in Rome\, where they learn from\, and inspire each other. There is some wonderful nature photography and the film is meaningful for people of all faiths or none. \nSee trailer below. \nAt the Zoom event on 12th June\, there will be a short introduction before watching the film. Afterwards\, stay on for half an hour or so if you can to reflect on the content and discuss if and how it can be used to advance knowledge and action in Skye\, Raasay and through Highland. \nIf there is support from attendees\, the film could be made available to watch and discuss in community settings around the area. Your feedback on that idea would be valued. DESCRIPTION:Drop off your unwanted domestic electrical appliances – large or small\, anything with a plug or battery – at Kyleakin Community Hall  between 11 am and 1 pm. \nPLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF ITEMS OUTWITH THESE TIMES. \nItems will be collected by ILM Highland and either fully recycled or selected for reuse. Items suitable for reuse are removed from the waste stream and taken to their Reuse Workshop to undergo a thorough testing\, cleaning and refurbishment process\, including PAT testing\, ready for sale. \nSome items are kept for repair and re-use on Skye. \nMore info here in ILM’s blog\, and watch a video here.

SUMMARY:Break Free from Plastic webinar: Plastic credits and Cement Kiln co-processing
DESCRIPTION:Break Free from Plastic (#BFFP) is a global movement striving for a world free of plastic pollution. BFFP is linked with The Story of Stuff\, a fantastic site with wonderfully simple\, devastatingly revealing short cartoon videos or movies about topics such as cosmetics\, bottled water and microbeads. As they state\, Together\, we can build a world focused on “BETTER” instead of “MORE”.\n\n#BFFP has several campaigns targeting different aspects of plastic pollution. The latest is ‘False Solutions Exposed’.
