SUMMARY:ReRoot films club: Xtrillion
DESCRIPTION:Xtrillion\, documentary about the densest accumulation of ocean plastic on the planet. \nDoors open 5:30 for nibbles. Discussion afterwards \nMuch of today’s food and drink is encased in plastic – and most of that is single-use. Sadly\, far too much finds its way into the oceans where huge accumulations\, such as The Great Pacific Garbage Patch are found. X Trillion follows an all-woman crew sailing 3\,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean to investigate this anthropogenic horror. Nevertheless\, the film is billed as ‘a story of hope\, filled with life\, magic and a call to action that burns with optimism.’

SUMMARY:'50 years of Litter on Skye'. A community webinar
DESCRIPTION:Skye and Lochalsh Environment Forum will host a webinar with Dr Tom Stanton and Professor Deirdre McKay\, summarising the work of their team investigating the natural and social dimensions of marine litter on Skye\, and further afield. Since January 2023\, the team have spent six weeks on Scotland’s West Coast researching marine litter using beach surveys\, drones\, and community interviews. \n“This work has been informed by questions and concerns about marine litter raised by the communities who have supported us. This webinar will feed back initial findings of our research\, share details of the work we are doing beyond Skye\, introduce new lines of inquiry that have developed since our summer 2024 fieldwork\, and outline what we are hoping to do next. We look forward to speaking to you on the 26th!” \nPlease email info@slef.org.uk for the Zoom link

SUMMARY:ReRoot Talking about Food
DESCRIPTION:by Anne MacLennan \nWe’ll be talking about organising fund-raising events in the new year involving food\, eating and music. There may be seed swapping\, cookery or fermentation demonstrations\, perhaps an indoor market. ReRoot hasn’t had any funding of its own\, so the options could open up with something in the kitty. \nWhat do you think ReRoot should do next year? What would interest you? How do we engage with more of the community? Come along and share your ideas. \nThere are no more planned events before Christmas\, but we want to get going fairly soon after. The first conversation of 2025 will be on January 9th.
