SUMMARY:Tormore Volunteer Day
DESCRIPTION:by Duncan MacInnes \nWe have bought a brand new powered wheelbarrow which will be launched on the day (up a path\, not out to sea) and we have 100 new trees from Phil Knott of Drumfearn\, and a new planting area up the Upper Peat Road. There are lots of paths to cut back\, grass to trim\, old plastic guards to remove and sitkas to cut down. \nWe need some conversation and ideas about making the entrance more attractive and some joined up thinking about cohesive information around the Woodland and following up on the Open Day. Bring your expertise and ideas along. \nMeet at the polytunnel at Tormore Woodland.

SUMMARY:"Plastic Inc.” - what Big Oil doesn’t want you to know about plastic
DESCRIPTION:Screenshot \nDescribed as ‘a compelling true-crime story’ by The New York Times\, Plastic Inc.\, by award-winning journalist and author Beth Gardiner\, exposes how major oil and petrochemical companies have driven the global explosion of plastic production\, despite growing public concern about pollution and waste. \nThe book shines a light on the ways industry wields its money and muscle to block measures that could stop it selling more plastic. And it looks at the hidden health crisis created by the chemicals in plastic as well as the ways plastic is driving climate change. \nBeth will be in conversation with Everyday Plastic founder Daniel Webb\, to explore the hidden realities of the global plastics industry\, the systems driving plastic pollution\, and what meaningful change could look like. Register to join the conversation here.

SUMMARY:Building Effective Nature-Based Regional Food Systems (Aviemore)
DESCRIPTION:At The Cairngorm Hotel\, Aviemore \nThe Rowett Institute invites you to join them for an engagement event focused on accelerating nature‑based approaches that can strengthen and future‑proof regional food systems in Scotland. This session will bring together targeted key organisations to explore practical solutions that support climate resilience\, environmental improvement\, and healthier food production. \nScotland’s Climate Change Plan (2018–2032) highlights that our future landscape will look very different having to accommodate increased urban spread as well as larger areas of afforestation and peatland restoration. Simultaneously\, there is an immediate need to produce healthy food efficiently\, while being mindful of protecting and restoring nature. Mainstream agriculture will have to quickly adapt to incorporate novel crops with potential to contribute to Scotland’s emission targets and strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This will require ambition to think beyond domestic agriculture\, more widely than ‘farm to fork’\, while contributing to our economy\, people’s livelihoods\, and the health of the nation. \nMore information here \nhttps://www.abdn.ac.uk/rowett/news-events/events/23573/ \nThe Rowett Institute says: “Let us identify together high‑impact opportunities and the evidence needed to explore effective strategies that work across a range of landscapes\, including less favourable land. Your expertise will be invaluable in shaping a more resilient\, future‑ready food system that supports us in becoming a good food nation.”
