SUMMARY:Improving the transport system in the Highlands and Scotland
DESCRIPTION:Our current car-dominated transport system is harming the planet. Electric vehicles will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions if they are charged using green electricity\, but not everyone will be able to afford one. Recent tests have shown that car tyre wear produces almost 2\,000 times more particle pollution than the exhausts of modern cars. Electric vehicles will also contribute to this pollution\, which consists mainly of nanoparticles that can enter organs via the bloodstream. \nWe rapidly need to move away from private car travel and improve our options for public transport\, walking and cycling. What would this look like in our local area? \nCome along to Friends of the Earth Scotland’s  zoom workshop on to think about the local changes needed to make it easier to get around sustainably\, and work out how to make it happen. Open to everyone\, no prior knowledge or experience needed. DESCRIPTION:Drop off your unwanted domestic electrical appliances – large or small\, anything with a plug or battery – at Ashaig Camp Site between 11 am and 1 pm.  Items will be collected by ILM Highland and either fully recycled or selected for reuse. Items suitable for reuse are removed from the waste stream and taken to their Reuse Workshop to undergo a thorough testing\, cleaning and refurbishment process\, including PAT testing\, ready for sale. DESCRIPTION: We all do our bit to recycle but\, with the amount of plastic produced around the world set to double in the next 20 years\, recycling alone isn’t the answer. Big companies are producing too much plastic in the first place and our recycling systems can’t cope. \nJoin the Big Plastic Count to count every piece of plastic you throw away between 16th and 24th May and help Greenpeace and Everyday Plastic uncover the true scale of the plastic problem. This evidence is needed to demand that the government\, big brands and supermarkets get serious about reducing the amount of plastic at source. \nYou can order a resource pack or download it online\, including a how-to guide and tally sheet. SUMMARY:SCA Electrical Amnesty - domestic appliance recycling
DESCRIPTION:Drop off your unwanted domestic electrical appliances – large or small\, anything with a plug or battery – at Ashaig Camp Site between 11 am and 1 pm.  Items will be collected by ILM Highland and either fully recycled or selected for reuse. Items suitable for reuse are removed from the waste stream and taken to their Reuse Workshop to undergo a thorough testing\, cleaning and refurbishment process\, including PAT testing\, ready for sale.
